Ingredients
1/4cupolive oil
1medium onion (chopped)
3clovesgarlic (minced)
2cantomatoes
1tspmixed herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
1/2tspred pepper flakes
salt to taste
1/2tspblack pepper (freshly ground)
1/4cupwater
1tspsugar (optional)
2basil leaves <finely chopped)
Instructions
In a large, pot over medium heat, heat oil. Add onion and cook until soft; about 3 minutes. To that, stir in garlic and cook until fragrant for about 1 minute more.
Pour in tomatoes, add dry herbs, fresh basil, salt, sugar, chili flakes, black pepper and use a wooden spoon to break tomatoes into chunks. Cover the pot and simmer for about 20 to 25 minutes on medium-low heat. Stir regularly.
Add fresh basil and check for seasoning. Cover the pot and simmer for another 2 minutes on low heat.
Notes
Store your marinara sauce, about 5-7 days in the fridge in an airtight container.
Alternatively, freeze it in single serving sizes for up to a year, and just defrost in the fridge as needed!
